I am Associate Professor and Conrad M. Hall ’65 Chair in American Constitutional History at Virginia Military Institute, and a historian of early America. After receiving my Ph.D. from Ohio State University (2015), I worked on the Early American Manuscripts Project as a post-doctoral fellow in the New York Public Library’s manuscripts division. I have taught at a number of universities, including Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont, where I was Assistant Professor of History, and was formerly the first full-time Executive Director of the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies. My first book, Aristocratic Education and the Making of the American Republic, was published by the University of North Carolina Press in fall 2020, and was a finalist for the 2021 George Washington Book Prize.
